Mingei Store House & Mingei Studio

Mary Taguchi’s timeless, much-loved work with Japanese indigo dyed cottons is now housed in Mingei Store House, Village Square, Bungendore, NSW, 30 minutes from Canberra.

Mingei Store House

The Mingei Store House is a small space, named from its form being similar to the Japanese storehouse or kura.

This is where completed work:  shirts, jackets, bags, hats, cushions and tableware, off cuts and some fabrics by the metre are for sale. The beautifully simple mugs and plates of Sandy Lockwood share the store house space; ceramics and textiles make a perfect pair of functional simplicity and modest elegance, based on the principles of the Mingei philosophy . . .  quality, functional, handcrafted, small studio runs.

As well as the store house, MIngei Studio is around the corner, down a country lane. Old and new Japanese cotton country textiles, collected for many years by Mary Taguchi, are cut and pieced together from this studio. Fabrics are available for purchase, by appointment.
